Mazda Canada says its 2012 Mazda5 will retail for $21,795 when it hits Canadian showrooms in early January.

The 2012 Mazda5 will be offered in two trim grades: GS and GT. Powering both will be a new 2.5-litre, four-cylinder engine that produces 157 horsepower and 163 lb-ft of torque.

A new 6-speed manual transmission is standard, with a 5-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission optional ($1,200).

Air conditioning, Dynamic Stability Control, Traction Control and dual front and side airbags for first row passengers and side air curtains that protect all three rows come standard across the line.

The Mazda5 has seating for six, or up to 857-litres of cargo space, rear sliding doors and 16-inch alloy wheels. An optional Convenience Package includes Bluetooth, cruise control, trip computer, leather wrapped steering wheel and anti-theft alarm system is available for an additional $845.

The top-of-the-line Mazda5 GT trim grade standardizes all the equipment from the GS with Convenience Package and adds 17-inch alloy wheels, heated cloth seats, lumbar support for the driver seat, SIRIUS satellite radio, Xenon headlights and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) for $24,395.

The optional GT Luxury Package includes power moonroof, leather seats and a second-row table that folds out from underneath one of the second-row captain’s chairs is priced at $1,790.

Since it was introduced as a 2006 model, Mazda has retailed over 50,000 Mazda5s in Canada and is the company’s second best selling nameplate, after the Mazda3.
