BRAMPTON, ONT. – When Bramgate Volkswagen first opened its doors in 1967, it boasted a one-car showroom and two service bays set up in a temporary building.
When its new facility, scheduled to open sometime in the fall of 2015, first opens its doors next year, things will definitely be different.
Ground was officially broken for the new store in late October. The site is at the southeast corner of Hwy 410 and Mayfield Road and the latest brand to plan a rooftop in Brampton’s newest auto mall.
According to the plans, the new Bramgate Volkswagen will top out at 42,000 square feet. The dealership will be the second new store for the Johnston family since opening the doors to their VW dealership nearly 50 years ago.
Audi of Mississauga opened in 2006.
“We’ve expanded our building three times since, from 6,000 square feet, to our current 20,000 square foot facility on Queen Street East. Our new location will be over twice this size, and will be loaded with customer friendly features,” Bramgate Automotive Group president William Johnston Sr. explained.
“Bramgate VW is the longest standing, family owned automobile dealership in Brampton, and the credit for this belongs in no small measure to our loyal staff and the leadership of my sons, Bill Jr. and Brad.”
“Brampton is one of the fastest growing cities in the country, and a diverse and vibrant market. Our new design and increased space will allow us to better meet the needs of our customers and growing community,” said Bill Johnston Jr. about their future dealership. “We’re very excited for the next chapter in our store’s history.”
On hand for the event was Volkswagen Canada’s director of sales, Darren Maloney; director of after sales, Eric Gregory; and manager of network development and business management, Paul Gommerman.
They were joined by Bramgate Automotive Group’s president, William Johnston Sr., and his sons, William Johnston Jr., V-P of Bramgate Automotive and general manager of Bramgate Volkswagen; and Bradley Johnston, V-P of Bramgate Automotive and general manager of Audi of Mississauga.
The yet-to-be-named auto mall has already seen ground broken for a BMW and Mercedes-Benz store.
Financial details of the construction project were not revealed.
