AMHERST, N.S. – Jim Hatheway says he has agreed to sell his Ford dealership to Jeff and Terry Taylor.

The Taylors, who also own Moncton’s Taylor Ford, will officially take over some time this fall.

“There are still a few hoops to go through and few things to be completed before then, but we have entered into an agreement,” Hatheway told the Amherst News Citizen-Record this week.

“This is not a bad news story, it’s a good news story for Amherst. It shows confidence on their part in the marketplace to step in and make an investment here.”

The paper reported Hatheway came to Amherst in 1992 when he purchased Bill Casey Ford on South Albion Street. The community is the largest town in Cumberland County in the northwest corner of Nova Scotia. It sits roughly 65 km east of Moncton.

A fire destroyed that store in 1997 leading him to erect the new dealership in its present location in 1998.

Hatheway told local media this could be considered a “semi-retirement” after 25 years as a car dealer and more than 30 in the automotive business.

Financial details were not disclosed.
