Micra tour coming to a dealership near you

With three of eight Nissan Micra Cup race weekends taking place in Ontario for 2016, Nissan is offering some Ontario dealers the opportunity to display a Nissan Micra Cup race car in their showrooms.

To date, nearly 20 retailers will display a Micra Cup race car in their dealerships between now and mid April. The tour started last week in the Ottawa area with stops at Myers Nissan and Myers Orleans Nissan.

On display is a stock Micra 1.6 S M/T model with minor modifications including NISMO suspension.

Launched in Quebec last year, the race series will expand to Ontario in 2016 with events at Calabogie Motorsports Park in May and two race weekends at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in July and September respectively.

“The first season of the Nissan Micra Cup surpassed expectations on all levels, and most importantly, enthusiasm from the Quebec dealer network has been fantastic,” says Joni Paiva, president of Nissan Canada Inc.

Micra continues to be an in-demand unit for Nissan after hitting the market in 2014. In February, it made up nearly eight per cent of Nissan Group’s monthly Canadian sales at 707 units sold.

Calendar year-to-date, 1,352 Micras have been sold in Canada. In its first full calendar year of sales – 2015 – Micra was the third best-selling vehicle in the Nissan portfolio at 11,909 units sold.

“Together with the Versa Note, Nissan was the number one OEM in the subcompact category in the 2015 calendar year with 23 per cent share,” explains Didier Marsaud, Micra Cup project manager and senior manager of corporate communications at Nissan.

“Through February, Nissan maintains this leadership position with a 25 per cent share of the segment—one of four subcompact cars sold in Canada are a Nissan.”

Marsaud notes that in addition to strong retail sales volume, Micra accessories business has been solid and likely buoyed by the interest in the Micra Cup.

“A key component of Nissan’s Micra launch strategy was personalization options, so accessory sales have always been a key focus from the start,” he says, noting that in 2015, the share of Micra’s accessory business increased by 10 per cent year-over-year in Quebec.

The Quebec market represents 57 per cent of all accessories sold for the Micra, with a large portion of these sales driven by personalization options.

“We are continuing to look at ways to give customers more personalization options, including leveraging the success and interest in the Nissan Micra Cup – such as the Micra Cup Limited Edition shown earlier this year.”

The dealer tour runs until April 14.
