Toyota: pedal remedy on the way

Toyota Canada says it has an approved remedy to the pedal problems and will start installing it at dealerships by the end of the week.

A steel reinforcement bar will be installed on affected models in the hopes it will eliminate friction that could cause the accelerator pedal to stick.

“The company has confirmed the effectiveness of the newly modified pedals that had previously shown a tendency to stick,” Toyota says in a release on its website.

Sources say the repairs could start at Canadian dealerships as soon as Thursday.

More than 270,000 vehicles in Canada have been recalled because of the problem. which has also halted production at two Canadian manufacturing plants.
