MONTREAL, QUE. –  Autoshow goers will be able to do more than just kick tires at Volvo booths at this year’s Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver autoshows.

Volvo Canada says showgoers will be able to build and customize their own vehicle with an interactive application developed by Montreal mobile application development studio, WhereCloud.

The automaker says visitors to the Volvo show booth will be able to use WhereCloud’s interactive touch technology to to “virtually transform the 2013 Volvo models on display.

“Using the interactive tablets provided, participants can choose from a wide range of design options with a swipe of their finger, from trim levels, colours and wheels right down to upholstery and navigation,” the automaker says.

The app will then produce detailed images of their ideal car as well as pricing.

“Build-your-own-car systems typically found online can be confusing and slow,” says Martin Dufort, CEO and founder of WhereCloud.

Dufort says touchscreens can provide a far more intuitive, engaging experience for users, especially given that the car models they're customizing are right in front of them.

They can try out car design options as they view pricing details in a “transparent and straightforward way.”

“WhereCloud has played a key role in helping us add a new dimension to the traditional auto show booth experience,” says Brad Painter, VP of marketing at Volvo Canada.

“Our customers want a car that reflects their specific needs and personalities. And we wanted to be able to give them that customization experience in an innovative and accessible way. WhereCloud has accomplished that for us.”

Volvo show booths at upcoming auto shows in Montreal, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver will be equipped with the app.

Founded in 2006 and located in Montreal, WhereCloud says it specializes in creating iPhone, iPad and Android apps that are “state-of-the-art, user-oriented and easy to use.”

The company also says products have been downloaded by more than 5 million users and have been featured many times in the top rankings of the Apple App Store.
