Continuing GM Strike Could Bring More Plant Closures

CTV News is reporting that the continuing strike against General Motors by some 49,000 United Autoworkers may result in more plant closures here in Canada, as the strike shows no signs of ending now that it has entered its second week.

According to the news report, there is still a distance between the parties on some key issues such as wages and profit sharing, new product for factories set to be closed and use of temporary workers.

The strike has caused the shutdown of two Canadian plants that make engines, two vehicle models and older-model pickups. Reports say if the strike continues more plants could be closed in Canada and Mexico.
