Ford Canada Looking To Cut 450 Jobs In Ontario

CTV News is reporting that Ford Motor Co. will eliminate some 450 jobs at its Oakville operations by early next year.
The layoffs are the result of decision by Ford to discontinue some models amid weak sales, and a refresh of Ford’s product line-up.
The Oakville assembly plant employs 4,200 workers.
Ford Canada said Monday that production of the Lincoln MKT crossover ended earlier this month and production of the Ford Flex sport-utility vehicle will end in November.
Dave Thomas, president of Unifor Local 707 said in a statement “we were having ongoing discussions with The Company for the past several months trying to persuade them to consider alternatives to this decision.”
“I realize this announcement will cause great concern for the entire Local 707 membership and their families,” he continued. “It will have a serious impact on us all in the coming months. It’s never a good time for lay-off notifications but when it happens around the holiday season it makes it that much more troubling.”
