Unifor Airs Ad Critical of GM During Super Bowl

Unifor, the union that represents workers at the General Motors’ Oshawa assembly plant which is slated to close at the end of this year, aired a critical ad aimed at the automaker during the Super Bowl.

Before the ad aired on Sunday, General Motors’ legal counsel sent a letter to the national president of Unifor Jerry Dias demanding that the ad not be aired.

According to the CBC, Dias said that the letter was meant to intimidate the workers at the plant.

According to the letter, the ad is “clearly intended to promote Unifor’s business interests and calculated to disparage GM’s business interests, contains several statements that are knowingly false and misleading in a material respect.”
