Volkswagen May Use Ford U.S. Plants To Build Cars

Reuters is reporting that Volkswagen AG’s chief executive is looking to build an alliance with Ford Motor Co. that may the German automakers using some of Ford’s plants to build cars.
Volkswagen’s CEO Herbert Diess is reported to have said the company was also “considering building a second car plant” in the United States, and that talks to build a global automotive alliance would strengthen the American automotive industry.
Bill Ford Jr., executive chairman with Ford said that talks with Volkswagen about an alliance are going “very well.”
The proposed alliance between Volkswagen and Ford suggests the days of carmakers going it alone are over, as tariffs, new technology and tougher emissions rules fragment markets that were once global, Reuters reported earlier.
