Yorkdale shoppers can now charge their electric vehicles as well as their purchases with the launch of four electric vehicle charging stations at Yorkdale Shopping Centre.
Centre management says the new charging stations are publicly available and capable of charging all electric vehicle models.
Yorkdale GM Anthony Casalanguida boasts that makes Yorkdale Shopping Centre Canada’s leading shopping destination. It’s already home to Canada’s first and only Tesla electric vehicle store.
The centre is located in the north end of the city.
He says environmental leadership is a priority at Yorkdale and the shopping centre boasts numerous sustainable technologies, including a green roof that earned it silver certification in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
“Electric vehicles are no longer a novelty, they’re becoming a way of life,” said Casalanguida. “Our Tesla store is the company’s highest traffic location in the world. We want all electric vehicle drivers to be able to plug and charge their vehicles at their convenience and shop or dine at their leisure.”
The stations are available on a first come, first serve basis. Parking spaces cost $2 an hour to a maximum of $5 per session. The fee pays for the use of the spot; the electricity is free.
Drivers can pay for parking in these stations with Charge Pass Cards available through Charge Point or with Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover Cards with RFID technology.
Drivers can also use the Charge Point app for iPhone and Android to search for charging stations, view availability and start and stop charging sessions.
Management says the stations are single output stations that provide 7.2 kW (208/240 V @ 30 A) Level 2 charging and are designed for the North American marketplace. An 18-foot cable makes it easy to charge any electric vehicle.
