GM USA announced it sold over 1,032,056 Buicks in China and North America in 2013. China-exclusive models such as the GL8 minivan and the Excelle XT compact hatchback lead the charge with sales gains of 9.7 per cent and 16.3 per cent respectively over 2012 totals.
The automaker boasted: “Buick experienced strong global growth in both crossovers and sedan from a product lineup that is among the freshest in the industry and the strongest the brand has ever featured.”
The automaker said the totals were the most Buicks sold in a single year in the brand’s 110-year history. The previous record was 1,003,345 in 1984.
Sales in China totaled over 800,000 and were up 15.7 per cent over 2012.
North American sales topped 220,000: 205, 000 in the U.S.; 14,300 Canadian; and 2,300 in Mexico – up 13.9, 9.5 and 100 per cent from 2012.
The automaker said 42 per cent of those U.S. sales were to buyers new to the brand.
