MARKHAM, ONT. – Canadians drove off with 66,057 of the compacts in 2014. The Honda Civic outsold its closest competitor by more than 15,000 units to retain its position as Canada's best-selling passenger car for the 17th year in a row.
Honda said “this remarkable feat is a testament to the durability, quality and reliability that Canadians have come to expect from Honda and the delicate balance of safety, fuel efficiency and fun-to-drive attributes that Civic delivers, year after year.”
“We truly value the trust that our customers put in us when they buy a Civic,” said Dave Gardner, vice-president of sales and marketing, Honda Canada Inc. “Nearly every Civic sold in Canada is built for Canadians, by Canadians, right here in our Ontario manufacturing facility.
“Seventeen years is an accomplishment that the entire Honda family can be very proud of, from our over 4,000 associates in Alliston, to our regional and national staff and thousands of associates at our 231 Honda dealerships across the country.
“ Since 1973, more than 3.8 million Honda Civics have been manufactured at Honda of Canada Mfg. in Alliston, Ontario with more than 1.8 million Civics sold here.”
The automaker went on to say its combined 2014 annual sales of 172,426 units by Honda and Acura divisions of Honda Canada Inc. are a five per cent increase over 2013 and the best annual sales in company history, with the Honda division reporting 2014 sales of 152,893 units, also up five per cent over last year, establishing an all-time yearly sales record for the division.
The Acura division reported annual sales of 19,533 units, up three per cent over 2013, the brand's highest annual sales since 2008.
“Closing out the year with best annual sales in our company’s history for both the Honda brand and Honda Canada combined is a true testament to the strong value of our overall product offering,” said Jerry Chenkin, president and CEO of Honda Canada Inc.
“December continued the trend we have seen all year, as customers responded favourably to our core Honda models. The same was true for Acura, and our Acura luxury lineup including TLX, RDX and MDX.”
Chenkin predicted 2015 would bring even more excitement as the automaker continues to expand its lineup with the launch of the HR-V, while Acura unveils the revamped ILX in Montreal.
