Record sales for three models helped propel Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. to break its all-time one-month sales record in April with 14,267 units sold.

The tally marked a gain of over 14 per cent over the same period last year and brought the number of consecutive months with year-over-year sales growth to 28.

“Our tremendous sales success is a reflection of the quality, styling, safety and value found throughout our product line,” said Steve Kelleher, president and CEO of Hyundai Auto Canada Corp.

“Even after almost two-and-half years of uninterrupted growth, we feel our long-term outlook is stronger than ever.”

Compared to the first four months of 2010, Hyundai Canada's 2011 year-to-date sales have increased by 8.5 per cent to 41,319 units.

Sonata had the best month in its history with sales of 2,362 units in April. Posting sales of 3,118 units, Elantra continued its strong pace and broke the all-time monthly record set this past February. The final best-ever sales result was achieved by Elantra Touring with sales of 1,434 units in April.

Tucson also posted a strong month for the Korean automaker with 1,755 units sold. From a year-over-year perspective, April sales of Sonata, Elantra, Elantra Touring, and Tucson grew by 70.4 per cent, 13.0 per cent, 40.5 per cent, and 57.1 per cent, respectively.

Hyundai says it will be adding to the model line-up in the coming weeks with the all-new Accent subcompact and the redesigned Genesis luxury sedan, followed by the new Veloster three-door coupe a few months later.

The only models that didn’t enjoy a solid April for Hyundai were the Accent (down 15 per cent), Genesis (down 54 per cent), the Santa Fe and Veracruz (down 1.7 and 40 per cent respectively).
