Toyota recalls over 82,000 Sienna minivans

Toyota said May 22 that the salt could corrode the spare tire carrier and cause the tire to fall off.

Model years affected are from 2004 to 2011.

“The recall remedy included the addition of a water splash protector and an anti-rust agent application to reduce the effects of corrosion. If the splash protector is misplaced or falls from the vehicle on these 2004-2010 model year vehicles, the spare tire carrier assembly cable may not have sufficient anti-rust protection even after the anti-rust agent application that was part of the recall (2011) remedy,” Toyota Canada said.

Also on the recall list are 4,000 Highlander and Highlander hybrid SUVs (model year 2104) as well as 465 Lexus GS 350 sedans.

The automaker said the Highlanders might not calculate the size of the passenger when deciding whether to deploy the airbag.

In the case of the Lexus sedans (model year 2103), the concern is that the brakes could apply without warning.

Toyota says there have been no accidents or injuries connected to the defects.

Dealers will repair the vehicles for free.
