Canada wants the Fiat: Chrysler

In what Chrysler Canada executives are taking as a good sign, 500 limited edition Fiat 500 Prima Edizione models sold out in 12 hours earlier this week.

“Frankly, this just underscores the interest Canadians have in a youthful, stylish and highly fuel-efficient car,” said Reid Bigland, president and CEO of Chrysler Canada.

The units, each with a numbered badge, went online for public sale at midnight on Tuesday. The special edition Fiat 500 Prima Edizione is exclusively available in three colours: Bianco (White), Rosso (Red) and Grigio (Gray). Two equipment levels are offered, and the vehicle features Fiat’s 1.4-litre MultiAir engine coupled with a manual five-speed transmission.

By the time noon rolled around, the entire run of 500 had been spoken for by consumers, each with a $500 deposit.
Production of the Fiat 500 starts in December and the vehicle will begin to arrive at Canadian Fiat dealerships in early 2011.

Earlier this month the automaker announced where the new Fiat line will be sold and for how much.
