CARFAX gets ready for its ‘official’ Canadian debut

Brent Burpee, national director of data acquisition for CARFAX Canada, said Canadian dealers are familiar with the vehicle history company.

“Many look to CARFAX when they buy cars from the U.S.,” he said.

In fact, he told Canadian AutoWorld that many of the over 380,000 used-car purchases Canadian dealers made in the U.S. last year would not have been made had they not been able to turn to CARFAX.

“CARFAX has over 34,000 data sources here and in the U.S.,” Burpee said. “That’s over 10 billion vehicle records providing data for 10s of millions of vehicles.”

The company’s data are accessible via a mobile tool that’s available on an Android or Apple smart phone.

“The dealer could be at the auction and punch in a VIN on their mobile device and get information about a vehicle’s history,” he said.

“CARFAX highlights pertinent information such as the number of owners, open recalls, accidents damage and odometer inconsistencies at the top of the report.

“This helps dealers quickly validate block announcements and assess the retail value of a vehicle.”

Burpee said CARFAX is proud of being able to offer vehicle service history – oil change records, repairs and warranty service.

And most important of all, the report is easy to read, he said.

“Our goal is to offer the most complete vehicle history possible. We believe transparency and disclosure creates fair markets, and builds buyer confidence.”

The question then is: When will CARFAX be making its debut here?

“It will be some time this year,” the company reported.

“CARFAX is the most trusted and respected vehicle history provider in the U.S. We look forward to bringing that same level of quality and reliability to the Canadian market,” Burpee said.
