New addition to crowded online market

A new online used-vehicle marketplace is promising to offer dealers and private sellers an “innovative” spot to showcase inventory and reach buyers.

Called VehicleGateway.com, representatives say the new venture differs from others in the crowded pre-owned marketplace in the depth of inquiries and its mobile application.

“Our big thing is condition and history reports,” says Peter Davies, sales consultant for VehicleGateway.com. “Whereas you can go to other sites and get model information, road tests, fuel consumption, when you come to our site, we’ll tell you about number of previous owners, vehicle history and condition.”

The history reports, he says, are courtesy of CarFax.

Unlike other online vehicle marketplaces, Davies says VehicleGateway.com provides “free space” for private sellers to list their inventory. Dealers will have to pay a small monthly fee. That model, he says, should help drive traffic to the site meaning more potential buyers looking at dealer inventory.

“We’re combining an Auto Trader with a Craigslist to create a dedicated marketplace for used-vehicles where private sellers can sell for free.”

That means dealers looking to offer used inventory to a wider audience now have a new outlet, he continues.

Founded last year and officially launched during the Canadian International Auto Show in February, Davies says the new venture already offers a large inventory of quality pre-owned vehicles from over 170 dealers. At press time, over 6,700 vehicles were listed on the site.

The site has a handy mobile version so buyers can find vehicles on the fly on their phone. Also included is a payment calculator and dealership locator.
